The Mississippi Department of Archives and History proactively engages in repatriation and disposition of Native American Ancestors and cultural items in compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).
We emphasize transparency, respect, and connection to the original inhabitants of Mississippi lands.
MDAH utilizes geographical cultural affiliation while fulfilling legal requirements of NAGPRA, maximizing institutional resources, and ensuring Tribal agency in repatriation.
